USES AND ADVANTAGES
SFEROPLAST hollow spheres are used for a multitude of purposes, from the elimination of atmospheric pollutants, absorption and desorption processes, separation of solid substances, product recovery, chemical reactions, heat transfer, gas purification, fractional distillations, and within the columns built for the use of static filling units.
SCRUBBERS (floating bed abatement towers)
In the floating bed scrubbers, polypropylene SFEROPLAST is used as a filling unit on one or more appropriately spaced grid shelves. The mass of the balls is lifted and swirled vigorously by the thrust of the gas or the smoke that flows upwards.
At the same time, the washing liquid is sprayed from above. The continuous movement of the balls causes the intimate mixing of the substances contained in the gases or fumes: the gas-fluid contrast forms not only on the surface of the spheres, but in the whole chamber.
Benefits
Automatic washing of the balls to remove limescale and fouling and therefore no formation of channels orfunnels and, as a result , a saving on the cost of cleaning the material
Increased use of systems that do not need to be stopped for frequent cleaning
Gas and liquid flow rates significantly higher than those allowed in static-filling towers
High gas speed, from 2 to 6 m/s
Possibility of varying the “liquid-gas” ratio
Reduced sizes of the systems thanks to the increase in efficiency and the possibility of working with high speed of fumes, and therefore lower plant costs.
GALVANIC
In galvanic treatments, the SFEROPLAST hollow spheres, positioned, for example, as a covering on the surface of a chromium plating bath, encouraging the absorption of carbon dioxide mists, reducing the loss of solution by evaporation, encouraging the condensation of the chromic acid drops and, acting as a lid, help to keep high and constant
the liquid temperature marking an important saving on the heating costs of the bathroom. SFEROPLAST hollow spheres also act as a mobile cover in reagent mixing tanks, allowing for the production of aerosols and micro-drops that come from gas bubbles to be limited and reduce the evaporation of mists in sewage sludge containing metals such as cadmium.
Benefits
Reduction of heat loss
Saving of chemical products
Reduction of maintenance costs
Reduction of splashes caused by falling pieces in the tanks
Decreased oxidation and contamination of solutions
Reduction of the emission of heat in chilled or refrigerated solutions
FLOATING COVERS (tanks, swimming pools, nurseries)
The floating ball cover on tanks, swimming pools or nurseries is an efficient thermal screen which, during warmer periods, reduces evaporation to a minimum and limits cold temperatures during colder spells, thus preventing the formation of ice. A single layer of balls is generally sufficient to reduce evaporation and prevent the spread of malodorous exhalations and algae growth. To make the spheres suitable for prolonged exposure to sunlight, the plastic material is stabilised by means of an anti-UVA additive.
Benefits
Reduction of heat loss
No maintenance costs for the balls
Delay in ice formation
Radical reduction of algae growth
No deposit of volatiles on the surface
